LC Newsletter 103: Yr 23-24
1 September 2023
Dear Parents,
Hope you all had a great week. We are coming towards the last phase of our semester. Time flies!
Judiciary
Last week we had our project day and during the presentations being a good audience is a requirement but also a challenge. Always before we start, we remind each other what it is to be a good listener. But having your friend close to you is also an opportunity to have some fun. We had record breaking number of complaints this week and few kids who had never gotten consequences have opened their accounts.
Circle Time
The usage of bad words is becoming very prevalent among the elder children. We have time and again brought it up during our discussions.
Projects
We have discussed the project topics. Mostly all of them have made a mind map. For a few it’s still a challenge to find a topic. We do our review every thursday.
Rope ladder safety
Rope ladder is new and everyone wants to sit on it and swing. Even younger ones are fighting for their chance. So we reminded everyone that gym mats need to be placed underneath before climbing on the rope ladder.
Football
Football fever is now gone because there is no football. We have lost six footballs so far to our neighbours. They have gone and spoken to the watchman, who seems to be strategically missing whenever something like this happens.
Oscar
Do you all know who Oscar is? He is a cat who visits us occasionally. Few kids have made a house for him. They are also thinking of vaccinating him, deworming him and clipping his nails. All this is fine by me if he eats up all the rats in the compound. That would be a pretty good deal!
Gymnastics
Vinayak Sir this time took a session on self defence. The kids were pitted against each other, the ones with similar body weight. There was a lot of energy and kids were cheering their favourite ones.
Singing Session
Our wednesdays are very melodious. Except a few, almost all are seen seated in circle with the music of Tanpura in background. Either they are captivated by Limangi’s voice or they are thoroughly enjoying themselves, maybe both. We like it because it’s the time for us facilitators to take a chill with music in the background. They have learnt the song, “A million dreams” from the movie The Greatest Showman. They have now started the song “Shabaashiyaan” from Mission Mangal. They are also learning Raag Yaman (aaroh, avroh, pakad, bandish). The other great thing is that they are listening to different kinds of music and understanding how to appreciate them. Currently they are listening to Coke Studio Pakistan songs.
Arts Workshop
This time the exercise was to draw a lie. As absurd as it might sound it's quite a fun activity. Kids were thinking of how to draw, “if I proposed to a model and she accepts it”, “I hit my brother but I told my mother that I didn’t”, “I am smart”, etc. Abstract concepts like, drawing an emotion, expressing vulnerability are some of the common themes that Shree takes in this session. You will see the pictures of them in the WA group.
